2023 Year in Review

Hi all,

Its been 2 years since my last post!! and how time have passed.

I would just like to do a quick post on the review of year 2023 and also maybe 2022. The past 2 years had been a great change.

Career

I had made a career change and moved into the professional services industry. In short, I am selling my time to provide consulting services to clients and handling multiple projects, proposals and most importantly time-sheets. There were times I was asking myself if this is what I want. While I enjoy the work, the hours are long. Nevertheless, we shall see if I can survive. This story is still evolving.

Investment

Investment-wise, due to the amount of time spent at work, the amount of time whereby i can manage my investments had dwindled. I had been maintaining a long-term portfolio of IWDA, EIMI and WSML via my StanChart investment account. However, I wasnt able to manage it. How i wish StanChart can offer monthly investment service on investment platform. Nevertheless, this is where robo-investor like Endowus, Stashaway and etc are good platforms for busy working adults.

However, due this week of office closure (my firm officially closes during hte last week of December and I can officially not respond to work emails!!!), I took the opportunity to review my SRS portfolio. I invested equally into Endowus, Stashaway and Lion Global All Seasons Fund (via POEMS). My Endowus portfolio provide the best returns while reducing my loses during the last 2 years. I have decided to sell away my Stashaway holdings and Lion Global All Seasons Fund and concentrate on Endowus. I will write another post on this soon. (I hope I have time)

Credit card optimisation

I had always been a cash rebate person, making sure I meet the minium spending, check the spending caps and etc. I have come to a point in time where my household expenses exceed the monthly caps. As such, i have started to include miles-earning credit cards into my spending portfolio such as UOB Preferred Platinum Visa, UOB Lady’s Solitaire, Citi Rewards, etc.

I still have a long way to learn about earning and redeeeming miles, especially for a family of five. Based on what I foresee, its unlikely I’ll be able to redeem miles for business air-tickets for a family of five. If someone can enlighten me, please do PM me!

Anyway, in the mean time, I wish every a happy new year and hope the year ahead will be bring everyone good health and smooth sailing!!

Cheers,
Naro
